Learning Outcomes:

Undergraduate University Study of Architecture and Urban Planning

History of Architecture and Art I
a student will be able to:

  • Critically examine the development of the history of architecture and art from the prehistoric times to the early Christian period
  • Examine the characteristics of specific works and artistic movements
  • Compare the stylistic differences between individual periods in Europe, the Mediterranean and the Middle East
  • Link the social circumstances to the causes of stylistic shifts and artistic movements within a particular period
  • Identify the role of social, political, economic and aesthetic factors on architecture and the visual arts in a particular period, as well as in general


History of Architecture and Art II  a student will be able to:

  • Critically examine the history of architecture and art from the early Medieval to the late Gothic period
  • Examine the characteristics of specific works and artistic movements
  • Compare the stylistic characteristics of a certain period in various parts of Europe
  • Assess the contribution and influence of certain architectural and artistic works of as regards the development of architecture and art
  • Link the social circumstances to the causes of stylistic shifts and artistic movements in the mentioned period
  • Identify the role of social, political, economic and aesthetic factors in architecture and the visual arts in a particular period, as well as in general


History of Urban Form - a student will be able to:

  • Critically examine the development of urban forms from the prehistoric times to the 20th century
  • Link the social circumstances to the causes of the emergence and growth of urban systems
  • Compare the characteristics of the development of urban systems in different historical and spatial circumstances
  • Analyse the elements of historical urban forms applicable to the planning of sustainable urban development


History of Architecture and Art III - a student will be able to:

  • Critically examine the development of the history of architecture and art from late Renaissance to start of the Industrial Revolution
  • Examine the characteristics of individual works and artistic movements
  • Compare the stylistic characteristics of a particular period in various parts of Europe
  • Assess the contribution and influence of individual architectural and artistic works with regard to the development of architecture and art
  • Link the social circumstances to the causes of the emergence of stylistic shifts and artistic movements in the mentioned period
  • Identify the role of social, political, economic and aesthetic factors in architecture and the visual arts in a particular period, as well as in general


Modern Architecture - a student will be able to:

  • Analyse and evaluate the key processes in the development of the modern architectural paradigm
  • Identify the essential segments of the architectural design process on the examples of major architectural achievements of the relevant period
  • With regard to the analysed examples of architectural achievements, develop a well-founded structure of criteria which decisively influence adequate planning solutions of particular architectural assignments
  • Using the acquired well-founded structure of criteria, analyse one's own architectural projects in accordance with the personal criteria-related discourse and creative motivation

 

Graduate University Study of Architecture and Urban Planning

Contemporary Architecture -
 a student will be able to:

  • analyze and evaluate key processes in the development of contemporary architecture.
  • identify essential segments of the architectural design process through examples of significant architectural works by relevant authors.
  • develop a well-reasoned framework of criteria that critically influence an appropriate design response to specific architectural tasks in various contextual conditions.
  • analyze the thoughts and bodies of work of significant figures in the global architectural scene.
  • critically assess their own architectural projects in accordance with their personal criteria and creative impulses, using an established and reasoned framework of criteria.


Croatian Architecture in the 20th Century - a student will be able to:

  • detect and analyse the key processes in the development of modern Croatian architecture,
  • explain the central paradigms, approaches, theories and discourses in Croatian architecture of the 20th century and their effect on contemporary architecture,
  • outline the significant elements of the architectural design process, illustrating with examples from key architectural achievements in Croatia during the 20th century,
  • formulate a well-argued structure of criteria of assessment of design response to a specific architectural task in various contextual conditions.


Theory of Architecture - a student will be able to:

  • understand the conceptual framework that underlies postmodern architectural discourse,
  • interpret the nuanced relationship between architecture and its social, political, and cultural context, both in postmodern times and in the present moment,
  • acknowledge theoretical issues in order to develop a critical posture related to the contemporary design process.
  • discuss the contemporary architectural examples, demonstrating a keen awareness of their theoretical foundations.
