Specialized Laboratory Unit ‐ Laboratory for Materials

 

DESCRIPTION

The laboratory for building materials is one of the best equipped laboratories for testing and researching building materials in the Republic of Croatia. The activities of the laboratory include the implementation of scientific and research work, teaching activities and professional work in cooperation with the industry. The laboratory provides opportunities to test the physical-mechanical and durability properties of standard building materials such as cement, stone, ceramic materials, aggregates, mortars, concrete and others, as well as novel materials such as composites, polymers and special concretes. All tests are carried out according to valid standards and methods (EN, ASTM, ISO). Furthermore, the laboratory has mobile equipment that provides the possibility of conducting various in-situ tests.
 


OFFERED SERVICES

  • mix design, production and sampling of concrete mixes
  • testing of aggregates (volumetric mass of grains, bulk density, determination of granulometric composition, index of grain shape, absorption and humidity, etc.)
  • testing of cement and other mineral binders (standard consistency and setting time, specific grain surface according to Blaine, volume stability, etc.)
  • examination of the properties of concrete and mortars in the fresh state (consistency, air content, temperature)
  • examination of the rheological parameters of concrete
  • examination of the physical and mechanical properties of concrete and other building materials in the hardened state (compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, modulus of elasticity)
  • examination of volume deformations (shrinkage, creep, temperature changes)
  • examination of the durabilty properties of concrete and other building materials (water permeability, gas permeability, resistance to freezing and thawing, resistance to abrasion, migration of chloride ions, etc.)
  • evaluation of the quality and parameters of concrete by non-destructive testing methods (rebound hammer test, ultrasonic method, determination of resonance frequency, pull-off test, depth of carbonation in concrete)
  • assessment of the quality of concrete in constructions - concrete specimen drilling
